Silverfish UK: Core Bike 2011

3 February 2011  |
Todays report form Core Bike 2011 includes another batch of shiny new kit, this time from UK distributor Silverfish, including products from RaceFace, Turner Bicycles, THE Industries, E13 and Mondraker. Race Face Ambush RaceFace had some new clothing on display and in particular the new Ambush lightweight (LW) gloves, featuring the patented d3o shock absorbing foam. Designed to be lightweight and flexible for rider comfort and control, without restriction, but stiffens on impact for maximum energy absorption; the best of both worlds. Turner DHR On display amongst some other very sweet looking frames from Turner Bicycles, was the latest Turner DHR using the newest version of the World Championship proven dw-link as used on the World Championship winning Iron Horse Sunday, to deliver 8.3in of rear travel. The frame design also features the patented anti-squat technology meaning the rear suspension won't lock out under power, allowing the rear tire to hook up while you rip out of corners. The DHR is available in four sizes. UK distributors Silverfish are selling the frame (with a Fox DHX RC4 shock) for £2,659 in raw, lime green, limited edition white or limited edition lumo yellow, or £2,795 in anodised black. The frame will be available in four sizes (S, M, L, XL) with a Fox DHX RC4 shock from UK distributors Silverfish for £2,659 with also some other limited edition colours available for a bit more cash. THE Helmet The guys from THE Industries look like they have very busy with two completely new full face lids for 2011, including the T2 carbon helmet costing a very reasonable £229.00. The new top-of-the-line helmet, at just over 1,000 grams, this technologically advanced helmet is lightweight yet super strong. The super-stylish T2 has a reduced silhouette, semi-integrated visor, 17 cooling vents and comes with a spare visor and nylon helmet bag. The T2 is also available in composite version for the cheaper price of £159.00. If you thought that was good value you should also check out their other new model, the Point 5 which appears to be a bargain at £89.00. Borrowing many of the best attributes of their super-successful THE ONE helmet featuring the same shape and profile as the popular ONE helmet, but made with an injection-molded ABS shell. E13 Cranks Another impressive looking stand was from the e*thirteen guys, with their great range of chain devices and bash guards. But it was their DH crank that caught our eye, a lightweight DH crank forged and then machined 7050 aluminium arms claiming to be 40% stronger than most common hollow forged alloys on the market. One of unique features of the cranks are the large 30mm diameter spindle, which is over 200% stronger than the standard 24mm spindle size used on most other lightweight DH cranks. The cranks also use a unique polygon interface based on a German Din manufacturing standard which provides 100% surface contact between the spindle and the crankarms. With this 100% surface contact it eliminates fretting corrosion, the prime cause of dreaded crankset creaking and loosening. Mondraker Summum For all you downhill fans out their we had to include a picture of Mondraker Summum, this bike looks even more impressive in the flesh and with an impressive overall weight of 34.5lbs this has to one of the lightest production DH bikes you can get your hands on. I think at one stage the guys from Silverfish were thinking they may have to call security for the number of times we went back and had a look at this beauty! Evoc Bike Bag If you are planning a trip abroad this summer then it may be worth you checking out this well thoughtout Bike Bag from EVOC. Designed with a DH bike in mind, including a wide set of wheels the bag is made out of reinforced and waterproof PU-coated ripstop nylon to provide a study feel. What make this bag different from anything else on the market is the great features designed to protect your bike, like the fork pocket, seatpost strap, external padded wheel pockets and the foam block on the bottom of the interior to protect your bottom bracket, chainrings or rear mech hitting the ground. Thanks to Pete from UK distributor Silverfish for giving us lowdown on some of their new kit and why not head over to www.silverfish-uk.com to view their full range of Brands for more information.
